Or had a velvet or silk slip away under your sewing machine no matter how many pins you use? This workshop is for you! Learn tricks to handle difficult fabrics all the way from cutting to finishing. Samples are provided but feel free to bring any particular fabrics you’re having trouble with, plus your machine* (or arrange to borrow one of ours).

Shirley will guide you to understand and practise many of its special features in this one day Sunday workshop. You’ll become more knowledgeable about the "dos and don'ts" of modern machine sewing and feel much more confident to take on new projects. Bring your machine, its manual, all its feet and other accessories and at least two neutral coloured threads (and lunch).

We provide the fabric - you bring your own overlocker* (or arrange to borrow one of ours) and threads.

Knitting - Beginners.$90, Thursdays 25 May, 1, 8 June 6.15pm - 8.15pm Learn the basics of knitting in this six hour class over three sessions - casting on, knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing and casting off. Bring 100g of 12 ply and 5mm knitting needles - because you’ll be knitting slippers!

 | Knitting - Next Step: Socks.$90, Wednesdays, 31 May, 7, 14 June 6.15pm - 8.15pm So you can knit and want to extend your skills? Sock knitting is fun and there are so many colourful sock yarns to choose from, including self-patterning Fair Isle yarns. Katharine is an expert and will teach you the top-down, flap heel method of knitting socks. Bring 100g of 4 ply sock yarn and 5 dp needles (2.25mm, 2.5mm or 2.75mm, depending on your tension), plus one 3.5mm dp needle.

Just as we were about to send this out, 20 new dressmaking fabrics arrived! Most are solid colours in needlecord (with a wee bit of stretch), linen, lawn, cotton, cupro, wool, and viscose but there are a couple of viscose prints and a linen/cotton gingham. Beautiful colours and top quality. Finding homes for all these means others will have to go on sale! Come and see. |
