YKK zips - the world's best!

We stock YKK zips - and only YKK zips - because they're the best. Dress zips and invisible zips can be bought from this website but we also have YKK jeans and trouser zips and open-ended zips, both  5 coil and Vislon.  (Phone or email us about any of those if you can't come into the shop. Our aim is to have them all on the website before too long.)

The letters YKK stand for the manufacturer, Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha. Their zips are a little dearer than some other brands, but they're worth it!  They're prized in the garment industry and beyond (eg for outdoor equipment) for their impressive construction and reliability. Part of the reason is that YKK zips self-lubricate the more you use them! Other brands become sticky and gritty over time. Not YKK zips. They feel smoother the more you use them.

We think it's not worth buying a cheap zip and running the risk of it breaking and ruining your garment.  Choose a reliable brand - YKK. We do!

Button counting

We also sell a selection of lovely buttons online. In the shop we have hundreds of different buttons in all colours and sizes, displayed in tubes with  the lid facing outwards and a button secured to the lid. Sometimes we pull the tube out to find there aren't enough buttons in it to meet the customer's needs and that we can't get more of that particular button. That's frustrating. Gradually we're selling out of the non-replaceable buttons and recording the replaceable ones in our stock database so they'll be reordered when their numbers are  low. One day we'll have every button in the shop  - several thousand of them - under control! Micro-management at its best. Meantime, we're chipping away at them one near-empty tube at a time!

Tip for online purchases

Most purchases from our website incur a standard freight charge of $10, which covers the average courier fee to customers around NZ (big items and RD deliveries push up the average courier fee) and also the time we spend  processing orders. I'm always surprised when someone buys an item that costs less than the freight charge - so that, for example,  their $9 item costs $19 to reach them. To me it makes sense to buy several items at once because the freight charge will be the same whether the parcel contains one item or 10 items.   And we have such a large variety of quality stock available to buy online I'm sure that anyone  could find several things they need to buy from us at any one time!  But I guess I would say that.
