Adult Classes

Who can believe it’s July already? We can because it marks the start of term 3 of our many exciting classes. Our latest schedule offers 22 classes (sewing, overlocking, knitting, crochet and more) between July and October, to be held in the shop or in our classroom behind the shop. Get in quickly as they are very popular and we take only 6 people per class. With our expert and friendly tutors and the lifelong skills that you’ll gain - at a very reasonable price – we know you’ll love developing or extending your creative skills. Check out our classes and enrol on the website, or grab a brochure and sign up in the shop.

Kids’ Classes

Unfortunately we won’t be offering kids’ classes in the near future. The risk of having groups of unmasked youngsters around is just too high for those of us who have vulnerable family members and/or a business that needs to stay open! Once we are happy that it’s safe enough to resume kids’ classes we’ll trumpet that news very loudly. Sorry to those of you – and your kids – who are missing out in the meantime.

New Yarns!

We have an amazing array of yarns in the shop – limited only by our shelf space. Among the newer lines are –

three balls of sierra 8 ply yarn, stacked on top of each other like a snowman

And we have more 3 ply yarns since the latest Broadway shipment arrived.

We keep our faves stocked up too - the Indiecita 14 ply Baby Brush Alpaca; the Malabrigo Rios 10 ply and Mechita 4 ply; and the Touch Yarns 12 ply solid mohair/merino, in limited colours at the moment.

And all those are only a small part of our yarn offerings!

Coming soon are two 70/30% mohair/silk Sesia yarns - Vivienne, a lace weight (2 Ply) and Eiffel, a 12 ply - in selected (by Jo!) colours. Utterly luxurious and perfect for a special garment.

Here are the two Viviennes we pre-ordered just to touch them. (They are truly glorious!) Jess and I have called these two Fox and Mushroom as Sesia only gives them numbers. (We did consider Stoat and Weasel but rejected those.)

We’re having difficulty keeping our knitting needle stocks up at the moment - especially straight needles in anything other than bamboo (we love bamboo but like to offer other choices). Somewhere out there are ships carrying knitting needles to NZ. Meantime we’ve ordered the popular sizes for 4 and 8 ply knitting in a line we don’t normally carry.

Fabrics

We have new craft cottons arriving regularly – usually 3 or 4 at a time to keep our limited but very tasteful collection stocked up.

And our linen and other dressmaking fabrics – including wool blends and corduroys for winter - are in good health.

Machines

We are well stocked with sewing machines and overlockers at the moment, including models at lower price points.

The Janome 8004D, at $649 is our best priced overlocker with the Janome 544D second at $749. If you come into the shop and mention that you read about them in this email we’ll give you $50 off either of these machines while stocks last!

The Janome FD216 is a 16 pre-set stitch mechanical machine, at $499, that is particularly suited to beginners or experienced sewists who don’t need anything too fancy any more – or who don’t want to switch to a digital machine. We have a couple more of these in stock than usual so, again, mention this email when you come into the shop and we’ll take $50 off the price while stocks last!

We offer a free 30 minute lesson on any machine bought from us so, once you’ve taken your new machine home and played with it for a while, phone us to make a time to come back for your lesson. We’ll answer your questions and give you tips to get the best from your machine.

That’s it for now!

Best wishes,

Jo Morris and the team at Wellington Sewing Centre.
